Prepare for your adventure

As the largest park in the National Park system, Death Valley is known for its varied terrain, from the low elevation of Badwater Basin, to the rolling sand dunes and the top of telescope peak, you can expect an array of weather conditions. Be prepared with lots of layers to tackled the various temperatures. Expect cool evenings in the fall and winter months.

In addition to your usual active vacation attire, be sure to bring:

  • Hiking boots
  • Sunscreen
  • A Wide-brimmed hat or baseball cap
  • Longs-sleeved, lightweight clothing for sun protection in the summer months
  • Binoculars
  • Camera
  • Golf clubs and/or tennis rackets
  • Bathing suit
  • Refillable water bottle
  • A full tank of gas
  • Light jacket for chilly nights and the top of telescope peak
