Death Valley National Park is open year-round, as is the Ranch at Furnace Creek. The Inn at Furnace Creek is open seasonally from mid-October to mid-May.
What should I expect the weather to be?
Death Valley is renowned for being one of the driest and hottest places on earth. During the summer temperatures can be 120°F or over. Evenings generally stay around a comfortable 80°F. We recommend that you wear sunscreen, broad-brimmed hats, and always carry water with you.
It is not until October that the heat starts to die down. During the short winters the temperature is about 65°-72°F during the day. Nights are colder ranging from the mid 30°s to low 40°s. Death Valley gets less than 2 inches of precipitation a year; if there is any chance of rain, it will occur during the winter. We advise that you watch for a flash flood if it does rain.
We advise you to check weather Web sites for current forecasts as the weather can fluctuate.
You may also check the National Park Service Web site for additional information related to weather.
Is there cell phone and/or Internet service?
Generally speaking, there is no cell phone reception in Death Valley. Depending on service provider and type of phone, some areas may have limited reception, but it is sparse and unpredictable. Wireless Internet is available for a fee in all of the guest rooms.
Is there a business center?
We do not offer a business center; however, faxing and copying services are available at the front desk.
Is there an entrance fee to enter the Park?
The National Park Service currently charges $20 per private vehicle, for 7 days. Fees may be paid at Furnace Creek Visitor Center or remote fee-collection locations within the park. When entering by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, or commercial vehicle the fee will vary. Please visit the National Park Service Web site for the most current fee information.
Where is the nearest location to get fuel?
The service station at the Furnace Creek Resort offers regular, high test and diesel fuels. Aviation fuel is also available for light aircraft landing at the airstrip.
How far in advance can I make lodging reservations?
We are currently accepting reservations for stays up to 13 months in advance. On the first of each month, we will begin accepting reservations for the entire month of the following year. For example, on December 1, 2009 we will accept reservations through December 31, 2010. For more information, please review our Reservation Overview page.
Do you have a waitlist for room reservations?
We do not offer a waitlist for room reservations.
Since you don't have a waitlist, should I check back every day for a cancellation?
Cancellations do occur; however, they can occur at random with limited success in obtaining the dates and accommodations desired. If your first choice is not available, rather than scheduling your vacation around the possibility of a cancellation, we suggest checking alternate dates instead. If you want to continue to check for cancellations, you may do so by visiting our Check Availability-Book Online page.
Why can't I find my reservation through the Web site reservation system?
Currently our online reservation system will only allow modifications or cancellations to reservations booked initially through our Web site.
